Master Gunnery Sergeant Mills enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2004 and attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA. Upon completion, he received training at Infantry Training Battalion (ITB), Camp Pendleton. Following ITB, he reported to 3d Battalion 7th Marines at MCAGCC Twentynine Palms, CA.
From March 2005 until May 2008, he was assigned to Co. I, 3d Battalion 7th Marines. During this time he served as a Fire-team leader, Assault Section Leader, Company Level Intelligence Cell Leader, and Platoon Sergeant. He deployed twice in support of
Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, he was promoted to Corporal in October 2006 and again to Sergeant in November of 2007.
In May 2008 Sgt Mills reported to Headquarters and Service Battalion, MCRD San Diego, CA, where he served as the Battalion Training Chief. In August 2008 he graduated the Martial Arts Instructor Course as the honor graduate. In 2009 he attended Combat Marksmanship Coaches Course. He executed a lateral move to the 5821Criminal Investigator Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) in 2010.
Subsequent to his lateral move, Sgt Mills was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, MCAS Miramar, CA. In August 2011, he graduated the Criminal Investigation Division Special Agent Course at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. In January 2012, he attended Domestic Violence Intervention Training, and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in April 2012.
In December 2012, he reported to Headquarters and Support Battalion, MCIPAC, to serve as the first Regional Trial Investigator in Okinawa, JP. During this time he developed standard operating procedures for the newly created position and refined evidence handling procedures within the Legal Services Support Section, Okinawa. He was then screened and selected for a tour as a Marine Special Agent (MSA) assigned to NCIS.
In December 2015, he reported to Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, MCAS Yuma, AZ to serve as a MSA. In February 2016 he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, and subsequently graduated NCIS Special Agent Basic Training Program. During his time as MSA he was nominated as the Marine Corps West Field Office’s Special Agent of the Year in 2018.
In August 2019 he reported to Okinawa, JP the Operations Chief, for the Criminal Investigation Division, MCBB Provost Marshal’s Office. In November 2019 he was promoted to Master Sergeant.
In August 2021 MSgt Mills reported to Camp Lejeune, NC, for assignment as the Operations Chief for the Criminal Investigation Division, MCB Camp Lejeune, NC. In June of 2022, MGySgt Mills assumed his current duties as the Chief Investigator for the Criminal Investigation Division at Camp Lejeune.
Master Gunnery Sergeant Mills’ personal decoration include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two gold stars in lieu of third award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of second award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
